Ring and Pinion from an 8v box fit a 16V?

Yes, it will work but you'll have to change out the driven 4th gear (the one 
on the pinion shaft) to accomodate the smaller 4th gear spline on the AOP 
pinion shaft.
VW made the 1.13 4th gear ratio (in the AGB) for both types of boxes so you 
just need the one gear.
