Rocco runs again, BUT.....

    Try the Idle valve.  Pull it apart and spray it down with some WD40 then try it.  If there's a change for the better then I'd start looking for one.  They're not cheap and they're not the same for the 2.0 16V.  Mine is the same as the one from the Audi, but I never looked up the one for the 1.8 16V.  They're not cheap from the stealer.
