Stripped bolt hole Question



Yep, helicoils are the cat's ass!
5 minutes to install if, as Ron says, you can get your drill in there.
But, that might not even be an issue since the tap drill is just about the same size as the outside diameter of the bolt which makes it just about the same diameter as a stripped out bolt hole. ;^)
I've been known to turn the drill bit with a pair of pliers in a tight situation cause in a fully stripped hole since there isn't that much material to remove.
As an endorsement, we routinely specify helicoils for threaded holes that will be assembled and disassembled during maintenance or regular use in all the aluminum parts we design.
