Two red wires go to alternator?

The 81 I'm working on has exactly that arrangement. Two 10 or 12 ga. red wires to the big stud (or two large quick connects depending on alternator) and small ga. (20-22) blue wire to the small stud.
The red wires should, of course, go to either the battery + terminal or the large stud on the starter solenoid. The blue wire should go to a quick connect close to the battery.
What's up with people randomly cutting wires? The car I'm working on has a bunch like that.
