Small victories

Well, today was another race for us, which may as well be "test and tunes"
for me this year. But it does give me deadlines to work to.

So with one local race left, I can (almost) safely say that my '87 16V
(which Denny drives) is running really well this year, one bad hot start
today which turned out to be a battery wire that wasn't tight, and that was
the extent of the issues with it this year. Except that I hardly drive her
since I have that *other* badly behaved green guy to drive.

So, about the green guy. You may or may not recall that I have been doing
intensive straight-CIS troubleshooting 101. With good guidance mind you,
but it's been a whole lot of fun. (not) Today's success? A rock solid idle
at 1000 rpm give or take, no matter whether hot or cold. I was wondering
what I was going to do with my time now that he was behaving, when out of
nowhere, the friggin car decided that like 3-500 rpm at idle was good
enough. Which it wasn't. WTF?
So the solution? Always carry tape. I reset the idle, and taped the screw
down. So next will be replaciong the screw and doing "correct" setup of
"miniumum air" and all that shit in prep for another round of gas analysis.
Even though the car was off his time (I'm sure the mix is screwed up), I
felt like I'd made progress. And I'd rather not talk about red lights...:(
