I agree with David, if the car is not popular now it will not be so in the
future. Cars do not get elevated to 'cult classic' like movies do when they
become popular far after release. Office Space was on AMC last night and
that is a movie that is more popular then ever and is definitely a cult
classic.

Scirocco, Corrado, A1 GTI, VW Thing, Karman Gia, etc. were all great when
they were introduced and are still great today (except maybe the Corrado)
;-).

While the Edsel or a Packard is interesting to see it does not have the
market for a '50s woodie or '57 Chevy. In 50 years nobody will know the
Phaeton ever existed, just like nobody knows of the VW SP1 or SP2.

Perhaps, but I don't think Phaetons will ever hit cult status.  It seems
like the only cars that do that were once popular, like the Scirocco,
Corrado, A1 GTI, etc...

But then again, I am biased...  :-)
