ahhh! make it stop

You need to remove and open the instrument cluster.
On the back of the instrument cluster there is a flexible
printed-circuit-board (pcb). It wraps around, among other things, the
speedometer.
Behind that speedo, there is a small solid printed-circuit-board. It
is the "oil pressure control unit", and that pcb plugs into the flexible
pcb. In my case, what happened was that the solder of the pins of the
connector on the control unit had cracked, thus causing the
light-and-buzz show.
Having a Bentley will help, pages 70 to 81 on the Electrical System
section.
As a temporary measure (and out of frustration) I would bang on the
cluster (gently!) and it would stop until the next bump in the road
loosened the connection.
