That is a KILLER price (obviously). The TD Jettas were a bit rare, so even
the drivetrain is a bit valuable as is.

I don't have tons of A2 exp., but rust in the usual places would be the
first thing. Add to that, rust in the subframe.

I can't think of anything really interesting to add, except to urge you two
to truly look into it. Make sure the compression is good and even, if it is
not there may be much larger problems inside. Those engines are a bit
spendy to work on, but in good shape and properly tuned, they can go 300K
miles...

G/L with it!

my dad is looking for a possible future replacement for his carb'd
rabbit which, in true rabbit form, is slowly returning to the earth.
that said, a guy came into work the other day wanting to sell his '85
turbo diesel jetta. he's only asking $500 for it simply because he
doesn't want to pay to put an alternator belt on (wtf?). at any rate, my
dad is possibly interested but, being an a2, i was wondering what i
should look for on this car. push comes to shove, i might have to find a
decent scirocco body to the engine in. input is appreciated. thanx.
