OT/OFT Batteries and Pennies

It's been almost two months since we ended the taping of pennies on
batteries discussion, but has anyone heard of taping pennies in water above
your front door to keep insects out? I'm not making this up. While on a
rally in rural North Carolina we stopped at a local general store and they
put pennies in a zip-lock bag full of water and tape the bag above the front

Scirocco content: I may change my oil in the middle of the night tonight as
to not get turned in my neighbors for "working on my car". Or I may just
sleep all night.

My next door neighbor from Memphis told me that taping pennies on top of the
battery will attract corrosion away from the battery terminals.
 
Is this hillbilly anywhere near right?
