Only an 8V.....

Story time kids!!!!

Those of you unfortunate enough to know me personaly
are probably aware of my little rocco harem: the '88
twin '87 16V and last and deffinately least my shitty
old '86 8V.

The 8v has been teetering on the brink of destruction
for months now, it's been hit in several traffic
altercations and the frame is a tweaked like a chimney
sweep's nose.

The exhaust fell off right behind the cat and all of
the syncros grind.

Several days ago I noticed that a new noise had joined
the discordant cacophony of clunking balljoints,
toasted wheel bearings and roaring open exhaust.

I of course dismissed this recent audio addition, who
cares I thought, the grotty little fucker had it
coming it signed on for a life of hardship.

This morning on my wide open throttle abuse fest to
work I noticed that the noise had gotten louder and
was joined by a nasty burning smell and a trace of
smoke at stoplights, good times.

Before setting off for my first job of the day I
decided to pop the hood and investigate, with the
engine still purring like a large cat in a blender I
ventured into the oil covered wasteland.

I was expecting to find bad alternator bearings or
worse yet a waterpump failure, imagine my surprise
when I discovered the timing belt tensioner had
completely siezed!

I popped a used 16v tensioner on there without
replacing the badly burnt belt, the rotten thing
should hold up until I decomission the car next week.
