RE: Changed your bushings?

Jim,

I don't have direct comparison so don't weigh this heavily. On my first
16v things were floppy and the handling wasn't precise. The suspension
was cut hortech springs with old rubber bushings. I think the ball
joints perhaps were the real culprit for this car, though.

My latest scirocco has poly bushings all around with exception of the
strut bearings and eibach sportline springs. The car feels really good
(I do wish the front springs were a bit stiffer) but the ride isn't too
harsh imo. I heard the best compromise is to run rubber strut bearings
and rubber upper shock bushings then you can run polyurethane elsewhere.

What's it like to drive a scirocco anyway? I've forgotten.

Subject: FW: Changed your bushings?

I'm fortunate (I guess) to have a project car that's not a total
project; I
still have more work than I have time for. Somewhere on my list is
replacement of the following:

(88 16V)
Front and rear sway bar bushings
Steering rack bushings
Lower control arm bushings
ball joints (maybe)
Trailing arm bushings (very maybe)

Anyone done all of this to a MKII?
How much of an improvement did you notice? I mean, in terms of chassis
"tightness," handling surefootedness, comfort, etc. I expect it should
be
noticeable, as those rubber bushings have to be kinda hard by now.
Anything
else you suggest I replace? Motor mounts are already covered.

Your feedback one any of this would be appreciated.

Jim
