New noise

Jim,

What Dan mentioned is a tool that lets you press off and press on the
bearing while still in the assembly. This tool is a godsend because if you
remove the whole assembly the car will need an alignment. This tool saves
you the need for an alignment and the trip to the autoparts store/press
while the car is torn apart.

Thanks to Anson for introducing me to this tool! We put in a wheel bearing
in my day old (to me at least) '83 in the driveway of Mark Hausler and Crazy
Jason in CA back in Feb. For someone like drunk Mike who needs his car every
single day this tool is definitely the way to go!

Before the franchise days, the local parts store chain would press out
old/in new for a very modest fee.

Easiest to just bring them the whole strut assembly, which for you means:

1. Remove 30mm axle nut (with car on ground) 2. Remove wheel (doy) 3. Unbolt
caliper and suspend somehow with wire 4. Remove rotor (phillips screw) 4.
Remove ball joint pinch bolt entirely (17mm?) 5. Unbolt/disconnect tie rod
end 6. Remove strut bearing nuts (2 x 8mm i.e. 13mm head) 7. Pry out
balljoint/pivot control arm down 8. Remove entire assembly

Drop off at (hopefully) friendly auto parts store.
Sorry if I forgot something, but it has been a really long time and my
memory is failing ;-) No need to do both. Do one and see if you can hear
the other one.

Jim

I would need the kit, correct? And I'm guessing that I should do both
sides at the same time? Can't remember if and when they were done.

Also, how much time should I have before failure?
