Any one know anything about A/C?

> If R-134a causes corrosion in general, why are you only seeing A4 cars with this? VW has been using 134a since '95 (my Passat, for example), and that's about the only thing on the car that hasn't been fixed. Sounds like a problem with a particular type to me - maybe a corrosion problem, even one that wouldn't have happened with R-12, but doesn't sound like a blanket problem with 134a cars. How's that for a runon sentence!

in the time that i spent at a dealership i sold more than my share of
the compressors for the a4's. it's the same part number that only fits
the golfs, jettas, and new beetles (never had the problems with the
other vws). i don't remember what the specific reason for failure was,
but you figure you only need a pin hole for the system to escape from,
couple that with a bad seal containing a corrosive substance, i can see
the potential for failure.
it's discouraging to see that as vw keeps upping the price on their
cars that their quality of biuld seems to be going down. :(

> Isn't there a direct replacement for R-12 out now? I thought I had seen something that you can throw in your R-12 system that is as cheap as R-134? Am I dreaming?

i believe i saw something to the effect or r-12a or something like
it. it was a hair more expensive than r-134, but i would try it if i 1)
knew i could use my same r-134 equipment and 2) if i could find it again.
