Was: question about oil filter change, now: different question about oil filter change

I used to work with a guy who was very high in the Quality area of Allied
Signal (now
> part of Honeywell)...at Fram. He knew the levels of quality at that
> plant, and for his own cars,
> he stayed far, far away from Fram products. That's all I needed to hear.

  For the sake of discussion:

I'm not surprised. Anyone who works at/for a manufacturing facility will
have horror stories about the products. I'd venture to say that Mahle and
Mann workers probably have their own, low opinions of the products they make
and sell.
I work in aerospace. You'd be surprised at the stuff that happens, even in
that tightly-controlled environment. People could literally go to jail, and
HAVE, for the things that go on as far as quality assurance issues go.
  It's sad.
I guess what I'm saying is that if you talked to the people associated with
the manufacturing floor of Mahle/Mann/Bosch filters, you'd probably be using
a K&N or Wix or something. And even they wouldn't be any better.....

My youngson had oil pressure problems several years ago after installing a
new Mann filter in his JH. While there is no conclusive evidence that the
filter was truly defective (I talked to Mann twice and they claim it
couldn't be), replacing the filter ended the problem. Anectodal evidence, I
suppose, but hey.....that's what this list thrives on.
