Iltis wasn't AWD...at least not full time.  But yes, the Iltis was
eventually produced in turbo diesel by the belgians.

Iltis used Munga 4x4, which Quattro was designed from, in stock trim it
was RWD with stock locking rear diff and shift on the fly AWD.

I will own an Iltis again, but this time, it will be a fully restored
one...parts are just to hard to come by here. (even with the Candians
scrapping all the Bombardier built ones)
