I think Nate may be right about the possibility that there was some old quantum or the like that had a diesel and a syncro. However, I'm sure the Iltis was never sold in the US by VWoA.

Are you looking at VWoA exclusively? Keep in mind that VW of the great white noth had different stuff then we did, and the occasional hockey-mobile made it south. Ilti (plural for Iltis?) were definitely in Canada, but I don't believe they were available for retail sale.

BTW: Bottom posting on a Blackberry is impossible. Therefore I propose the top posting must be the way to go. Could a Canadian product be wrong?

However, post trimming is something that we should all do, reguarldess of our posting beliefs, and that seems impossible on BB too.

Nothing I've heard of in the states, but there was the Iltis (ask Salty 
'bout that one), and probably some Golf/Passat Syncros in Europe.  They 
love their deisels!
