Aluminum Oil Pans on later VWs?



The stock oil pan on the later VWs WAS aluminum, and the only option  
you had in terms of material as far as I know.  At some point just  
recently though, VW made a new oil pan that is half aluminum/half  
steel.  The steel portion covers the bottom and up along the sides to  
about halfway up the pan.  VW recommended that people replace their  
stock oil pan with the new one when doing a repair and also released a  
TSB for all dealers.
