Many modern cars use transfer pumps to lift gas out of the tank feeding
the main pump rather than gravity. Some use one in-tank pump. They are
all electric motors which rely on liquid gasoline for cooling. If a pump
runs dry, they will burn up. Your car was running on a starved main pump
after the tx pump went bad. There is a good chance the main pump will
act up or fail soon.

Otherwise, congratulations.
