MK1 Engine removal shortcuts?

wow, someone has too much credit on his sears
craftsman card, haha, and too much time on his hands..
what was done with that car??  was it welded back
together in some strange way, to make a limo, maybe,
or a narrower car.. or something else really
bizarro???
