Autotech cam fitment q's

I had this same question about putting in my new Autotech Sports 16V cams and called Autotech about this. I talked to Shaun (Spelling?). He said that you don't need HD springs and that you only have to replace the stock ones if they are examined and are bad. I did ask him about the HD's and my concern about the extra wear. He said on our style heads with hydraulic lifters the wear is only increased by about 3% a very small amount. He said that the wear is much greater on non-hydraulic style heads. What I like about their Aport springs is it raises the rpm limit to 8000. wheeeeee! I doubt that I will ever run that high but it reduces the chance of floating a valve. He did stress however to replace the $20 chain as it is cheap replacement and insurance against failure. If I can afford it I'm getting their springs too.

I know it's been answered, but not only do you not need the HD springs, you don't want them either. From what I've been told, the HD springs are stiffer, thereby increasing wear and stress while not providing any benifit if not needed.

Collective,
I'm planning on replacing my timing belt soon on my '81 (1.7 FN), and I
thunk I should also install my Autotech 268 cam and Neuspeed cam gear
out of my '84. Question is, do I need heavy duty valve springs to make
it work, or would I be safe using my stock springs?
Thanks!
Nate
