sounds like your head gasket broke,

check in your coolant if you have oil and in your oil if you have coolant.

Hey guys, just rejoined the list after about 5 months of downtime due to a crappy 50-hr a week job and laziness(not a good combo). Well I get my confirmation email, drive to class, and on my way back to see if my confirmation went through this happens:

Going down a long stretch I see my 16V is all warmed up so I decide to really hit the gas... shift at 6K in first, 5500 in 3rd, and at 5K rpm in fourth I suddenly hear stumbling and lose nearly all power. Immediately I turn off the engine, look behind me and see a gigantic white cloud where my car used to be. CRAP!!!

I coast the last two blocks home, park and pop the hood... hmm no fluids leaking, smells like burnt oil, timing belt is intact(just replaced 100 miles ago)... start it up again, starts up and runs like crap, can barely rev itself above 1500rpm, and immediately the white smoke is back out the exhaust... looks like coolant smoke but smells like oil. I heard no knocking or other weird noises. Now I've rebuilt some 8v's and have quite a bit of VW knowledge, but have never experienced anything like this on my first 16V. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! Looks like I may be taking the 8v to Cincy...
