No Start issue with 1989 Jetta GLI 16v



Excellent write up, I would just add to be sure to do it in a CLEAN
environment...  Also, have a new seal between the AFM plate and the
Distributor in hand before disassembly...

Ok, I have seen this before. Remove all the lines to the fuel dist. Place
the dist in a plastic container and soauk it in engine GUNK.
Remove the nut  holding the plunger in and pull the plunger out. There is a
small spring in there. It will fall out easily.
Spray Gunk in the plunger hole and reinsert the plunger. work the plunger
several times, refilling the dist with Gunk ever few plunges.
The plunger should move smoothly from top to bottom. Replace the spring,
folding lock washer and nut.

Fill each fuel outlet with gunk as well, work the plunger.

Let the dist soak for quite a while then reinstall the dist and try it
again.

Run several FI cleaners through the system to clean it correctly.
