That 26k Mk2 on Ebay - SOLD for $8,300!!!

Having listened to all of the reasons why someone shouldn't pay $8,300 for
a 26K mile 88' 16V, I'll say this.
I'd have considered if I hadn't won the bid on an 82 911SC Targa last month
on Ebay for much more than that. One owner, all documentation. No
misrepresentations, original paint in better condition than our same color
83' coupe.
"Cave ate the emporer" is fair warning, yes.
But, considering if it was really a 26K mile 88' 16V, $8,300 is ball park.
Leftists/Socialists are excused from the following real money excercise but!
Try your own numbers at http://www.westegg.com/inflation/
Based on the more than $16,000 cost of a 16V in 1988, that same car new
would have been at least $24,322.15 in 2002. (To remind people who debate
only in feelings rather than reality, that was 2 years ago, so 2004 would
be more. Sorry, the free calculator only goes through 2002 and I don't want
to tax anyone.I'll leave that to John Kerry.)
If the car on Ebay really had 26,000 miles, what would it have been worth
with that mileage in late 1989, if you called that 2 years of wear?
For this exercise, let's call it $11,000.I say that because I paid that for
a same vintage/mileage 88 16V Scirocco in 1989. Honest Injun! (Sorry, not PC)
The (inflation only) calculator says that what I paid $11,000 for in 1989
would cost $16,062.90 in 2002. Again, 2002 was 2 years ago.
Discounting bogus bidding, which is certainly a possibility but none of you
can PROVE, maybe somebody got a really good deal.
Considering finding a real 26K mile 88 16V, maybe we all missed something.
There are snakes on Ebay, but each sale requires they rooted out.I've dug
up and run off a few . That's what it takes, to challenge them.
But, in this case, absent real fraud, I wouldn't crow.
