Check this German Ebay car...

It is impossible for an individual to import (legally) a vehicle from
Europe.

One must go through a NHTSA certified and bonded Registered Importer
(RI) who is authorized to accept, securely store, modify as need, and
prepare a compliance certification package.

This is expensive, but the RI will make it pretty easy on you. Search
for "NHTSA registered importer" on Google.

I've done some research on the topic and it seems very risky to import
stuff over. If anything goes wrong, your car may never make it
through and the money towards shipping is all for nothing. At least
it's fairly easy to get a scirocco to US standards, but I think the
gov't will bring it up to US safety standards and their work ain't
cheap :)

Of course, I guess you don't have to bring it over with intent to
register it...
