Virginia - YOUR Emissions Inspection Test Results are Online(1998 - and after)

Enter the VIN number of a car that has had a Virginia emissions inspection
since early 1998 to see the test results. (It doesn't have to be your car.)

The test machines are are online with the VA DEQ and the results are
reported to the DEQ as soon as the test is finished.
I don't know if they posted tot he Web in real time but they can appear the
same day.

I ran over this mostly by accident, it was not that easy to get to. Check
your state, maybe they have it online also.

One thing that I found out is that the standards for my car were made much
tougher. I guess either the Fed or the State gov't imposed new limits. My
previous two tests were very close for NO. The standard was lowered by
about 25% (for both 15 MPH and 25 MPH)

Also, in VA (and perhaps all states with emissions testing) if your car
does not pass the test you cannot fix it yourself, you have to take it to a
DEQ approved shop and produce the receipts for the retest. So, if you
think you may not pass, do everything you can to fix your car ahead of time!
