In terms of serpentine belts, you would loosen the belt tensioner, 
correct?... (let me read his post again).

So, is the trouble one that you cant get the thing out because the 
belt is over the pulley?

OR is is that the belt _is_ gone but you cant get the Alt away from 
the bracket/motor?
