repost with better info: finger stop getting in the way of shifting

The FF tranny in my "new" 1980 mk1 shifted like glass, with a 
disintegrated 5th gear. Now the FO tranny I replaced it with has moved 
the rods around a bit.
It seems to have pushed the stick down. The finger stop is hitting the 
plate that is supposed to separate 1st and second from reverse. I have 
tried reversing the rods that snap on to the swivel balls in case they 
were different on each side, I can't remember if I reversed both of them 
but I know I have done at least one. I just can't figure out what to 
adjust here.
