cis-e operation with going/bad o2 sensor - solved

> -- noticable smell of fuel

ok, found the culpret. i got way close to pulling the injectors and doing
the ol' 4 container test. i hung out on the front porch for a few minutes to
gather some frustration (a requirement to get those injectors out), when i
noticed several brown patches on the front lawn (where the wife parks). that
seems odd, so after a quick check i find a nice pin-hole on the output line
of the accumulator. yes, the same union that marks the start of the long ass
hard line that goes from back to front. on a passat its a semi-plastic line,
but equally difficult to do anything with. in true anson style, i risked
life and limb, taking a dremel to the flange on the accumulator (yes, there
was some fuel still in there). having cut the nipple off, i had a flared out
section to get a good bite with a hose clamp. this allowed me to basically
jumper around the accumulator, connecting the hard line directly to the fuel
filter (fuel filter is in the back on a passat, next to the fuel pump).

> -- idle speed constant, but engine stumbles slightly every 4-5 seconds

now that its running without insane fuel smell, i can rule out the ideas of
improper mixture and focus on simple things like plugs/wires/dirty
injectors.

thx to all for the various suggestions i got throughout the day
