30k mile, JH motor install questions



Thanks for the response.  The motor did have oil and antifreeze still in
it.  As you suggested, I will drain the old oil and try to saturate
everything else as you mentioned.  I will not get to it again until next
weekend so the oil will sit for at least a few days.

Yes, but not as the 1st thing.

Yes, this is one of the 1st things, see below

I'd think the 1st thing would be to drain the existing oil (if any) and 
overfill the motor with some regular motor oil. I mean fill it up till 
it won't take any more and let it sit overnight. Drain it again but I'd 
be reusing some of this oil during the turn over process. It would 
behoove you to get a 5 QT jug from Walmart or what ever for this as it's

basically throw away lube.

You'll want to pour something like Marvel Mystery Oil (or regular motor 
oil) into the cylinders via the empty plug holes while the thing is 
sitting overnight.

After you drain the thing and refill to the proper amount I like the 
drill turning the oil pump idea, but after having the insides all 
'whetted' it might not be super important.

Most folks know there is a Corrado rubber valve cover gasket to replace 
the two piece stock one but I believe there is also the same for the oil

pan gasket.

The new tensioners come with a different size bolt, don't forget it 
(Potter will already know and include one).
