the bumper holds the core support at the same point that it mounts to the
frame (either end), giving it no reinforcement from the front engine mount
stresses (which occur in the middle of the span). as a matter of fact, in
theory, the bumper would help keep both sides of the frame at the exact same
distance from eachother, so once the lower rad support starts to get bad and
flex, having a stronger bumper installed would actually contribute to
splitting of the lower rad support (under more tensile stress).
