My scirocco knocked out by a ford!

It's very possible, but keep in mind that your air intake (so long as
everything is factory) is way down below the bumper area for the most
part. Chances are, you sucked up some water, got the air filter wet and
the car couldn't get any air. Check your airbox for signes of mudd,
water or small fish and see if the filter looks like it got soaked. If
it was a clean stream and not like the red mud flows we get here in Ga,
then chances are you may not be able to tell. But I'd put my money on
water in the intake before water under the cap if it was a small stream.

I get to a tiny road that has an open ford (for you city folk, that's a stream crossing with out a bridge). It was getting dark and I remember the water not being too deep so I go across. I thought I was in trouble when the water splashed over the hood! I made it across, but alas, my car died on the other side. I was totally tool-free, with no flashlight. I took off the distributor cap and the plug wires and put them back on. It still took about 20 minutes for the engine heat to dry things out enough to start. For me, the best part was my wife didn't give me a hard time about it even though she asked me if my car was too low to make it across.
