Thread Repair Insert Info and links [was Re: 16v head problem]

The inserts that DYNA sells are the Keenserts... Thems the shiznit, they
will NOT come back out, unless you drill them out... The little fingers
that are above the insert itself? Those hammer into place, and disturb the
threads so that it cannot 'wind' its' way back out...

Thanks for the link, I was too busy at the time to try to find a pic...

Regards,
  David

What type of insert? A properly installed HeliCoil should remain in place.
(And should require a special tool from Helicoil to remove the
insert.) See: www.emhart.com/products/helicoil.html for information.

Also see additional insert
types: www.keensert.com/ (Carroll Smith, if you know
who he is, likes these. If you don't know who he is look him up on
Amazon. If you want to know how to put a car together, read some, or all,
of his books.)

         www.timesert.com/ Their Big-Sert line says ". . Will repair
oversize holes which have previously been repaired."

Pedergrass Tool Specialist, 2635 W. Woodland Dr, Anaheim, CA, 92801
carries these.

You can probably find more information ("How To") about these items on the
Web. Some require special tools which can make it more cost effective to
have a machine shop do it. Plus, they do these all the time and a
competent shop can do a good job.

To my knowledge, all (or at least most) thread repair inserts are designed
to lock in place when properly installed. (Otherwise, what's the point?)

I have had good luck with HeliCoils (smaller than the spark plug
size). They installed just like they were supposed to.

Good luck,

Chris
