Subject: No Start Part 2

While checking pricing on Ebay MSD coils, I came across Jacobs Electronics
ignition systems. Does anyone have any experience with these? They seem to
be pretty sweet and very functional for a reasonable price. If anyone does
use their electronic ignition kits, which one and are they really the mpg
boosting, e-z cold starting, hp boosting wonder devices that they claim? I'm
interested in the Pro Street, Ice and Mileage Master kits but they all seem
to be pretty much the same with the same features so pros and cons would be
much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

I have had some experience, but I am not sure it is too related... Don
decided sometime back to be crazy and stick a low-comp. stroked turbo 1.7 T4
motor in a '75 Bus. I don't know where he got the turbo from, prolly a 1600
T-Diesel Jetta or something. Anyways, flat-out without the turbo was 75
mph. It was really an abomination, the turbo was on the passenger side of
the block so turbo lag could be easily demonstrated. He had all sorts of
fuel issues until he realized that using the factory FI, you had to have a
rising-rate fuel pressure regulator. That helped a lot, but it still
suffered quite a bit. Tope-end was good, but spark was not as stong as it
could be with the Bosch blue coil. SO, to the point. He got a Jacobs coil
kit, called something like the Bugpack(?). It was a coil and a set of
wires. He put that in, and MAN was the power solid, all the way up to the
rev-limiter! He would consistently push 17 plus psi (on long pulls of
course)... Anyways, he kept burning through plugs until he figured out he
could use early 930 plugs. That made a bit of difference as well...

To sum up for the babble-intolerant... It worked really well in his case,
and I would recommend it in a high-comp motor built to wring every last hp
out of it. Stock motors I don't think would see too much of an improvement
except perhaps a smoother idle. A turbo motor would definitely benefit too.
I myself am still holding out for MSnS...

Hope that helps some,
  David
