Does the fuel pump in the original car howl?  Is it audible at all, or at least moreso than the GTX?  More than likely, it is on the way out.  As they age, they draw more current, which eventually cooks the relay.  My guess is it takes less current in the GTX, and therefore works with fewer problems...  OR, it could be as simple as a loose/dirty connection at the fuse block or pump for that matter.  Contact cleaner at either spot should eliminate that possibility.  Are any connections loose?
