VW Dealership

Tonee,
I will offer a few comments, if only to serve as a bit of a sounding board
and so much as an employee of another (ahem) dealership... :)

They told me the loose air intake boot (bullshit) was the cause for the
check engine light and "emmisions workshop" message.

I respect your opinion, however, what makes you think that this is not
possible? I am assuming that the car in question is some version of an A4
platform...

And that the driver's side seat airbag needed to be completely replaced for
$720.

Today, this get's better...................

For some odd reason they "said" they check the coil pack by spraying water
on it, stating that it was arching. I didn't ask them to check that. $600 to
replace. Last time I checked I was born on 11-26-69 at 0430, not fckn
yesturday.
Is this a Passat? I do not know of any coil that is that high. The
amplifier for the Passat however is 450.00 or so...

When I inspected the engine bay around the coil pack, dust and dirt
everywhere. Not one thing showed the removal of the engine cover to get to
the coil pack. Water seems to magically turn into dust and dirt only in a
dealership service department, I think I found David Copperfield!

Yeah, that is a new one on me, although the reasoning is sound. The
evidence would be enough for me to question them as well however...

The "new" or should I say "original" airbag diagnosis shows "airbag inflator
resistance to high, sporatic. The last time I checked "resistance" had to do
with "electricity".
Yes, this is true. However, we do on occasion replace airbags because
despite the use of a new harness, there is still too much resistance in the
line to the airbag. The light stays on if it is passed a certain
resistance, and sometimes the only way to fix it is to replace it. This is
one of the reasons why I drive a twenty year old car, it will still be at
least semi-functional in another twenty (my two-cents)...

They also found a wire that leads up to the seatbelt lock that was severed,
so they stated was the main culprit. My hair would never turn blonde even if
I lived in the desert!
We replace the harness to the side airbags and the seatbelt receivers (the
severed wire you mentioned) quite often. Folks move the seats back and
forth as if they were in front of the dinner table, not realizing that all
this movement makes those harnesses go out... Granted, if VW were smart,
they would have made those wires braided, but that would have prolly raised
the resistance and therefore defeated its' purpose...

So after charging me another $95 to find out that I now need, oh, let's
see.........

Coil Pack...$600
02 Sensor..$132
Seat belt wire...$40
Airbag wire harness...$60
MAF Sensor....Free
..........................................
$832 plus $190 (2-diagnosis) for finding out what I'm really not to sure.

So, tomorrow is going to be eventful when my "file" with VWOA is updated.

WAR is never really over, and I've got alot of time right now and nothing to
do.

Hey Cathy, I'm almost getting as long as your emails. hehe

Very pissed off individual,

Tonee

I can sympathize man, but unfortunately, these are all very common repairs
on these cars... Let me know what year, model, engine, and mileage, and I
will do a little homework here... In the meantime, please realize that if
you keep all this agression inside, you are going to end up just like me!
:-P And you all wonder why I am a prick sometimes (yes, sometimes damn
it)... :)

Cheers,
   David
