Flex pipe (was RE: Tensioner Good, Exhaust Bad)

Another solution to the problem is using stiffer front and back engine
mounts to minimize engine movement when suddenly loaded (or unloaded).
I've run a combination of poly and TT mounts for 13+ years on various
cars with nothing but "rigid" exhaust systems and had ZERO problems.
Even the torquey warmed over 2.0 ABA mated to an old TT (ie: rusty)
exhaust (sans cat or any flex type joints) has held up no problem. My
race downpipe sits VERY close to the floor (due to the higher ABA
block), so if there was movement I would hear it hit, or at the very
least feel a vibration.

So, IMHO I feel a flex pipe (which by it's very nature would restrict
airflow due to turbulence - no equal dia. wavy pipe will flow as well as
a straight one) is unnecessary if you're running stiff engine mounts,
even with more than stock power levels. Whether or not the same holds
true on a 200+hp FI powerplant, I don't know... Any input from the
high hp crowd?

Mark.
