Finished with brakes... but something wrong?

OK, finally got everything hooked back up, and bled the brakes (power bleeder rocks!).  Anyway, two strange things are bothering me;
1.) After bleeding the brakes, I pumped the brake pedal many times - as necessary to get everything normal for e-brake adjustment. But I'm not building any pressure (i.e. as I pump, the pedal isn't getting firmer). The brakes ARE working, I put a board on the pedal and checked the wheels. But no pressure build-up... I did have the booster out, but didn't touch it, and replaced it as it was. I still haven't started the car since doing this, don't know if that matters (can't start it just yet).
2.) The brake pedal is still 1/4" away from the brake light switch. Again, this seems to have to do with the booster and its pushrod, but I didn't change it any! This is a new (different) pedal assembly though. Should I just adjust the rod longer?
Thanks guys!
