That info looks bogus to me . . .

The VW 5 speed was introduced to North America on the 1979 model year
"limited edition" 5 speed (the precursor to the 1980 "S"). 8/79 would be
a 1980 model year car. There seems to be an incongruency here.
Furthermore, my 1982 Scirocco came with an FF trans, again contradicting
the above info. Of course, the 1981 Sciroccos also came with FF trannies.
