Starting Q on a Jetta

The car is an 8v Jetta with digifant.
The car will run according to the PO if the car is floored and well cranked 
then run very poorly.
I have checked the timing marks and they are correct.
The WOT switch is wired hard on.
Seems to have spark.
Engine is disgustingly dirty. Worst I have ever seen!

What should I check to see what the problem is?
