octane baby!

there you go assuming again, who said I had a JH ?

and for your info I run a hybrib JH Head with 3A Block Knock sensor, and
with 89 it pings at 105'F outside temps.

I stand by what I said...

=>There's only one problem with your equation. A JH doesn't ping on
=>89, so if
=>you stick a "not =" everywhere you have an "=" in your equation
=>that will be
=>the correct equation for an 8.5 CR non-KS JH.
=>Every engine has an octane requirement. Once you meet that
=>requirement going
=>higher will only lighten your wallet (less weight=better mileage!)
=>PL, 3A, ABA all have a higher octane requirement than a JH. Feeding them
=>swill will probably hurt your mileage as the KS retards timing under some
=>circumstances (do you really think it's retarding timing under
=>part throttle
=>cruise conditions which is where you spend the vast majority of your
=>driving??).
=>Check this out. Perhaps not definitive, but input none the less. See para
=>6.13 and 6.15
