Scirocco mentioned in NYTimes

Just as I suspected: "mid-priced" VW roadster.
You should know what THAT will mean....

  A Sober Show in Germany

The International Auto Exhibition alternates annually in location and often
in spirit between Frankfurt and Paris. This week, it opens in Frankfurt as
the sober and serious Internationale Automobilausstellung. Press previews
start on Tuesday, Sept. 9, and doors open to the public on Friday, Sept. 12.
Times are lean. And both the production cars and concepts set for
introduction tend to be bread-and-butter models vital to the futures of
their companies: notably the Volkswagen Golf and Opel Astra.
The fifth generation of the Golf - which had been Europe's best seller
until it was surpassed last year by the Renault M?gane and Peugeot 206 -
was delayed, VW critics say, by the diversion of company resources to
luxury brands like Bugatti and Bentley and to expensive new models like the
VW Phaeton. The Golf takes few risks; more exciting is the Golf-based
roadster concept that could provide VW a midprice sporty car of the sort it
once had with the Scirocco and Corrado.
Volvo will show a new version of its S40 compact sedan. That car will
eventually come to the United States, but the Jaguar X-Type wagon, another
  Frankfurt introduction, probably will not.
For the well-heeled, Aston Martin shows its new DB9; BMW rolls out its 6
Series coupe; and Mercedes-Benz will introduce its $250,000 McLaren SLR
  supercar.
