Oh, OH!, how I love a well maintained list/archive...

I went out and started it again and this time, I looked from the top.  Sure enough, oil seeping out from between the filter flange and the cooler.  While searching the list archive, I found this nugget from January '03:

Now, remove the blown seal between the cooler and the filter flange.  Take your old oil filter, remove its rubber gasket, replace the blown cooler-to-flange seal with the oil filter seal (yes this works perfectly).

Is this recommended or should I wait and get the proper o-ring?
