tensioner tool?

For the tensioner you can just use a couple small allen keys in the 2 holes
then turn it with a screwdriver, but I have jonesd the proper tool while
doing this.

Yes you have to take most of the pulley system off before unbolting the
motor mount from the block. I built the whole thing up on the engine crane,
including putting on the motor mount and the timing belt, then just dropped
it in as one unit. Seemed to be pretty easy. I've never bought a new
tensioner but its defenately a good idea.

Make sure you line up the marks properly on reassembly. The other thread
this morning about the JH swap talks about this. There are 2 timing marks
on the cam pulley, one facing the shock tower and one facing valve cover.
The one facing the valve cover is the only one you want to pay attention to.
Line it up with the top of the lip on the valve cover as per bentley.

good luck & have fun, hope you have more power than Erik does with his jh
swap ;)

Subject: tensioner tool?

Hey, guys. I got a replacement JH for my car the other day from a friend,
and Melissa and I will be spending all our free time until I leave Wednesday
morning putting it in my car so that Melissa will have something to drive to
Cincy.

Now, either because I've only ever owned 8v's, because I'm lazy, or more
likely, both, I've never done a timing belt. When pricing Potter's
tensioners, I noticed the tensioner tool, and was wondering if this is a
necessary thing to have when doing timing belt/tensioner. I don't
specifically remember seeing it in the Bentley, but I'm at work now and
can't check.

I swear, someday I'll have a nice shop with all the weird little tools I
need!

Also, I seem to remember reading something about not being able to access
the passenger side mount without taking the timing belt off 1st, which would
mean waiting until the new engine is in before installing the belt...
anyone?

I'm just mentally planning the work I have ahead of me...
