1.8 JH swap....bit more power...still sucks

>>Straying fairly far away from factory settings generally will net you less

started at stock settings.....sucked ass, advanced timing to see if it would
do anything positive....

>>It sounds to me like something fundamental is not right.
>>I'd go back and reverify:
>>cam timing
>>igntion timing

Check

>>make sure ignition vacuum and mechanical advance are working correctly

most of the vacum stuff was removed and sealed off, as I was told most of it
was "emmissions garbage that I didn't need" by the shop as it was a
California car. Mechanical advance was disconnected, then re-connected
later, helped a bit but not much.

>>the WOT switch is actuating (if you have one)
>>verify fuel pump delivery
>>verify all the injectors are delivering the same amount of fuel and their

>>lastly, check your cat is not plugged (if you have one)

Check, check, triple check

>>Also, are you sure that your TDC mark on the flywheel is really at TDC?
>>That, of course, would screw up ignition and cam timing.

Yah, but helpful for sure.......thanks =)

I'm running the 4-2 manifold and the 2-1 downpipipe into a 2.25 TT cat-back
exhaust.

This was done at a local VW shop......they think it's due to lack of fuel as
the power just drops to nothing after about 3500 rpms. They seem to think
with this VW Motorsport air sensor/fuel distributor they sell will allow
more fuel as the dia of the air sensor plate is larger, and the sensor plate
will go higher, spitting out more fuel. BTW I am running the 1.6 air sensor
& fuel distributor.....I'd really like some feedback on this in particular.

JT - are you talking about the cable bushing at the end of the cable on the
pedal? If so I HAD to replace that cause it just vanished one day when I
was driving! I ended up using a very solid rubber cork that I drilled
out.....no movement there.

I really don't know WTF to look at next. Any other ideas would be
appreciated no matter how stupid you might think they sound!.....who knows
maybe it got overlooked.

Hi Eric;
A tooth off of stock setting on cam timing is probably going to be too
much jump that is why we buy adjustable pulleys. A JH with a stock cam is
cammed for torque and advancing the cam lowers the power band which the JH
with it's stock mild cam probably doesn't like. If you haven't already done
so I would install a good exhaust system. Either a header or a TT dual down
pipe coupled with an early Rabbit 4 into 2 cast iron exhaust manifold. I
have used both and they seem to work about equally as well. After you have
done the exhaust if you desire more power I would recommend a new cam such
as
a Euro G grind. I don't know what fuel management system you are running but
even straight CIS will deliver a ton more fuel than a stock JH can consume.
