Hi Dan;
I wouldn't worry about the power in the 8V engine. even a 1600 would =
have plenty. You can always shift down if you are lugging. I would worry =
more about the tranny and over heating. I used to haul a trailer with a =
1972 Datsun with a 1600 engine and on the long grades I would turn on =
the heater and heater fan even tho it was 100 degrees out so that I had =
enough cooling capacity to pull the long grades. At the least I would =
put an auxiliary switch on the radiator fan so I could turn it on at the =
bottom of the grade rather than let it get hot enough for the fan switch =
to turn it on.

Being that roccs are lower than most cars, should I stick the heavy =
stuff in the back of the trailer to offset the tongue weight? Even an 8v =
is capable of 1000lbs? I'm mainly concerned with the very long uphills =
when I get into the Rockies. It will be May and the last thing I want is =
overheating or just not having enough power.=20

i would say a rocco is capable of pulling a thousand pounds or so. =
the thing you must avoid though is tongue weight (downward force on the =
hitch).

Since renting a whole truck to move doesn't seem like a viable =
plan, I was thinking of renting a trailer or 2. Looking at towing with a =
8v VW (most likely scirocco) and a 01 Jetta 2.0. Haven't looked up the =
towing limits yet but I know Allyn's Rieger can tow that parachute of a =
trailer with a ton of stuff in it. Granted, he doesn't have a stock 8v =
though... It will be all flat, highway miles until CO. Should I even be =
considering this as an option or is it not a good idea?

      Dan
