Disclaimer: I'm an uninterested observer.

I had an '86 Coupe GT (well, what was left of one), the same white
commemorative edition one. Two things about said cars, for anyone who
hasn't owned one but might be interested:

1. The slave cylinder's a PITA, but it can be done.
2. Coolest. Car. Ever. It's a big Scirocco with extra amenities, space
for four real full-sized chunky Americans, awesome styling, almost as fast
as a 16v, and with a torquey may-never-die I5 engine. The digital dash is
very pretty, too. They share a great deal of technology (like FI, ignition,
etc.) with Sciroccos, making them passably easy to work on.

Trading $500 for a Coupe will make you a happy camper. (Ask my friend, who
just bought Hitman's brother's old Coupe.) I have a new never-installed
slave cylinder for my long-dead project car I could part with for cheap,
too.

Now, back to Sciroccos. :)
