F**k - of all the things that can break



More than likely it was one of two things.  Depending on what type of
scraping sound you heard, it could be the thrust bearing went away.  Another
possibility is that you blew the headgasket between cylinders but not where
it would leak coolant into the oil or burn coolant creating big puffs of
white smoke.  I've done both of these so this is my experience.
