What to use as side markers?

Went through the junkyard the other day, and I was on the lookout for some low-profile (read: small & thin) side marker lights to fit on the Scirocco.  Anything I found was huge, thick, and only two wires.
Where do people get those really nice little side marker lights?  And does everyone hook them up only as blinkers, cause I was hoping to use them as running lights and blinkers (like the corner lights are).
