Quantum Syncro opinions?

Collective,
I'm looking at buying an '87 Quantum. Haven't driven it yet, but:
Good stuff:
-GL5
-5 speed, 5 cyl.
-Syncro
-Wagon
-Black
-(very) Small amount of rust on the leading edge of the rear drivers
side door.
-160k
-4 Snowflakes, in good shape, with good rubber.
-Power windows, steering, maybe locks?
-Shocks are nice and stiff
-Clean Carfax
-$500

Bad stuff:
Needs a drivers side tail light (the dealer was pushing it with a truck,
the truck bumper popped over the Quantum bumper and toasted the lens)
Needs lower control arm bushings
Some odd clutch problem/story (told to me by the dealer): When the
dealer got the car, the owner traded it in because it supposedly had a
bad clutch. Dealer looked at it, and apperently saw that the clutch
pedal mounting point was soft and flexible, which was causing the clutch
to not dis/engage. Supposedly did some repairs (welding at the
firewall???), and now it goes into all 5 forward gears fine, but won't
go into reverse unless the car is off and started in reverse. The
dealer was told about the repairs by the Mexican mechanic (that's what
he called him), who wasn't there when I was there on Saturday. I didn't
get a chance to drive it (it was almost closing time) but I plan on
driving it in the next few days.
I'm wondering:
This 'dealership' is one of those run of the mill, has almost everthing
places. Methinks he has no clue what he has. Could it be that the
linkages need adjustment? That the clutch needs to be bled? I assume
it's hydraulic, it feels like it.
I don't know much about the 4000/Quantum line, i.e. what to look for,
what to look out for, things to worry about, etc.
Any pointers will be helpful!!
And if I but it, I'm selling my '84:
