Diagnose: severe clunking

Everyone's reaction to this will be the same, but:  What about your brake 
rotors?  It's very common on BMWs to have high-speed balance problems 
caused by a warped rotor hub.  With how easy it is to change them out, I'd 
throw on another set and go from there.

The more likely scenario will be your axles.  I had a horrible, horrible 
vibration on my Golf that was caused by an unbalanced axle or CV.  (Dunno 
which one, I replaced the axle and problem solved).
